Today is the funeral for Billy Graham.
He was laid to rest in a casket made by inmates at Angola Prison in Lousiana.
I have visited that wood shop and heard about the caskets that were made there for both Billy and his wife, Ruth. It amazes me that such a prominent leader would give so much dignity to these inmates, largely forgotten by the rest of society, in building these caskets.
Billy Graham’s Legacy
Due to his character and faithful service to God, for decades, he was known as America’s Pastor.
He had a simple, yet profound message:
God loves you, and you can have a relationship with Him by his Son, Jesus Christ.
It is estimated that over a billion people heard the gospel through Billy Graham. Over 3 million people committed their lives to Christ because of his ministry.
What a remarkable legacy.
Daily Bible Reading Practice
Some years ago, I heard Billy Graham had a practice of daily Bible reading and making his way through the book of Psalms and the book of Proverbs each month. His reasoning was:
The Psalms tell us how to get along with God, and the Proverbs tell us how to get along with our fellow man.
Billy Graham
After hearing about this practice, I decided to do something similar by reading through the Psalms every month. It has had a big impact on my life and my faith by helping me work through emotional aspects of life.
I am grateful for the impact that he had on my life.
Join me in prayer, thanking God for gracing us with the life and legacy of Billy Graham.
