Beyond Prison Walls

I’m sending this picture of Keith Morse and I out…

Because today the Louisiana Governor granted Keith (he goes by Bossier) a pardon!

I can’t think of a better person than Bossier to get such a massive outpouring of favor.

Bossier was serving life without parole, and in Louisiana, the chances of him getting parole were slim. His case got elevated to the parole board, and in a powerful display of forgiveness from the victims, he was granted clemency. His papers have been on the Louisiana Governors desk for two years, until today!

At seven years old, Bossier met his father at Angola Prison. Bossier didn’t find out he was a dad until he was in prison. While in solitary confinement, he had a powerful encounter with Christ, and his life started to turn around.

He was inspired to become the best father he could be and wrote a bible study called Malachi Dads. Tens of thousands of dads have been through the program he founded.

Malachi Dad’s hosted the event in 2013 when I first went to Angola. We would have breakfast with them after spending the night in prison cells.

Their deep connection to Christ and commitment to their children was unlike anything I have seen. The life on life authenticity they have with each other showed me what the Christian community could be. And I can’t even describe what would happen when they prayed, but I will never forget it.

Wanting what they had, I worked through the Malachi Dad’s materials, including memorizing Psalm One. I’ve intentionally made time with my kids to speak into their lives and connect with others to create a community.

I’m grateful for Bossier and glad that he can continue to make an impact for the Kingdom, beyond prison walls.
