Realizing Your Personal Vision

When God was creating the word, even though there were many details to take care of, he had you in mind. And every person alive. Even me. It is a huge truth to fathom.

All the experiences we go through are used to hone and refine the unique purpose we were put here for. The things that we are really good at, the things we do that make us come alive, the relationships we have that give us a deep sense of meaning, all point towards our mission.

When you look at your life, the moments that make you who you are, what do they say about you? Maybe there were challenging moments that left you wounded. When we find healing, these moments become a gift. How can we bring that gift to others that are hurting?

This might be offensive, but you already know your life’s purpose, it’s just that you are not stepping into it.

Waiting On The World To Change

It takes more than clarity of your personal vision, to realize that vision. You can have a clear vision of your ideal role, or your ideal future self, or the mission that God is calling you to, and it won’t be enough.

I am clear on what I want my life to be about. It is leading and communicating to connect people with the Word of God, encouraging them, creating space where people feel accepted, seeing lives transformed, people become free and fully alive.

Two things about that terrify me, leading people and writing. I am nervous that I could lead people astray, or that I am the type of person people don’t want to follow. Writing scares me because, for a long time, I didn’t think I had something to say, but deeper, it is that no one cares what I have to say. So I talk myself out of it and don’t write.

Today I recognize that I am waiting for the world to change before I step in and do what I need to do. If I land this new big job, at a company I have been chasing for a year, I could go all-in living my mission. If I had enough coaching clients to quit my job, or had the financial resources to bridge the gap between quitting my job and going all-in on starting my business.

I am waiting for all the circumstances to change before I can live out my mission. The question I am asking myself is, what can I be doing today to live out my mission, right here, right now?

Courageous Action

It takes courage to step into a new way of showing up in the world. If it was easy, and it didn’t scare the crap out of you, you would be doing it already.

What do you need to hear and know for you to be able to step into what you want for yourself? My guess is, if you had some encouragement, if you knew you had what it takes, you would be able to take action. Or maybe it is a challenge, and you need to hear, “I believe in you, you can do this.”

When you are up at the edge of yourself, that’s how you know you are pushing yourself to learn and grow and playing a bigger game.

About a month ago, I got a new fountain pen. It is similar to the one I always wanted as a kid. I love it, but the nib is always dry. You have to scratch and scribble before you start writing. You have got the get the pen moving for the ink to flow.

The same goes for when you step into something new. Once you start moving, the juices will flow.

No matter the outcomes, even if you don’t reach your wildest dreams, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you gave it a shot and didn’t sit around waiting to win the lottery.

Reflection question:
In 10-15 years from now, if everything turns out great, what is your life like?

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!

Psalm 90:17
